Committees/Volunteering

The Epilepsy Association of Nova Scotia has a number of Committees that report to the Board of Directors. Volunteers are needed to sit on the Fundraising, Human Resources and Scholarship/Bursary and Program Review Committees:

Fundraising Committee

As with all non-profit organizations, fundraising is an on-going activity for the Epilepsy Association. The Committee meets as often as is necessary to plan and organize fundraising events.

Members of the Fundraising Committee:

- help to plan special events and other fundraisers. This could include finding venues, getting quotes and working out budgets as well as coming up with good ideas;
- identify possible cash sponsors for special events;
- identify possible donors for Silent Auction items;
- help to create letters requesting sponsorships or donations;
- follow up with possible sponsors or donors by phone;
- help to plan the program for the event day/evening;
- attend and assist with the running of the event;
- contribute to the final report on the event that will be given to the Board of Directors.

Human Resources and Finance Committee:

- reviews office procedures to ensure that proper human resources practices are being followed;
- develops and maintains an Operations Manual as a guide tool for human resources policies and procedures;
- establishes performance objectives and conducts annual performance evaluations for office personnel;
- assists in the recruitment and selection of office personnel.

Scholarships and Bursaries and Program Review

- receives, reviews and evaluates all applications for the two Scholarships and two Bursaries that the Association offers to young people with epilepsy to assist with their post-secondary education;
- reviews new and existing programs to evaluate their benefit to the Association’s clients and the general public;

Other Volunteering Opportunities

From time to time, there are other volunteering opportunities, depending on the activities being carried out at various times of the year.
